The Governing Board is the governing, forest management and representative body of a community of woodlands. It is elected by vote of the General Assembly for a term of years set out in the statutes, which in any case may not exceed the limit provided for in the regulations: four years.
The number of members of a Governing Board shall be as laid down in the statutes of the relevant community but, as a minimum, it must include a president and two members, one serving as secretary and the other as treasurer. In the event that the community comprises several population centres, it is common for the statutes to allocate the members by neighbourhood or locality, although this is not compulsory.
The president holds the legal representation of the community and, at the initiative of the Board of Directors, is responsible for processing the notices for General Assembly meetings. The secretary is in charge of the notices, minutes, correspondence, certificates, minute books and register of community members and, in general, of all the community's documentation. Finally, the treasurer is responsible for overseeing the financial affairs.
