Conference on ecosystem services
The Galician Forestry Association held a seminar on ecosystem services in the forest on Thursday, September 25. The activity took place in the municipality of Mondariz, at the Mouriscados Cultural Center, as part of the training activities scheduled around the Mouriscados Demonstration Forest.
25 people attended the explanations of two technicians who addressed the potential of certifying the ecosystem services of the forest, such as biodiversity conservation, recreational services or soil conservation and protection of watersheds.
Thus, those forests that assume a series of environmental commitments, subject to audits, can achieve ecosystem services certification, with which they have the opportunity to raise resources to support their management.
The potential and diversification of the products offered by forests were discussed, giving examples of certified ecosystem services and the financing opportunities they can provide for forests.
Different methodologies for inventorying fauna and water resources were also presented.
In the coming weeks, a similar day will be scheduled at the Castelo demonstration site, in the A Coruña municipality of Culleredo.
