Travel to Portugal to learn about the eucalyptus industry.
On 7 and 8 May, a group of 50 members of the Forestry Association of Galicia took part in a visit organised by the Portuguese company Navigator to see some of its facilities in Portugal.
On the first day, the group visited a forest property managed by the company near Maia and the Institute for Forest and Paper Research, located near Aveiro. They had the opportunity to learn about the forest management carried out by Navigator's technical staff and the research into genetic improvement, plant propagation and forest station analysis techniques.
On the second day they visited the Navigator paper mill in Figueira da Foz, where writing paper, tissue, packaging and moulded pulp are produced, and the one in Cacia (Aveiro), dedicated to the production of tissue paper and moulded pulp for food use.
During these visits, they had the opportunity to see the industrial process, from the arrival of the timber to the finished product, and were given detailed explanations by the company's technicians.
