The forestry sector is concerned about the frequent delays in felling dry, decaying or burnt pines in the area demarcated by the nematode. These trees, which can encourage the spread of the nematode pest, must be felled urgently once detected, but bureaucracy is delaying some fellings for several months.
The sector is calling for a silviculture support programme in the demarcated area to improve pest containment and to address the increased costs involved.
The Forestry Association of Galicia will this week convey to the Xunta the need for information measures for landowners, accompanied by a support plan for silvicultural treatments to help curb the pest.
