Working session with the Director General of Forest Planning and Management
On 1 June, we held a meeting with the Director General of Forest Planning and Management to discuss various matters related to joint forest management groups.
José Covelo, director, and Daniel Rodríguez, economic director of the Galician Forestry Association, took part in the meeting and discussed with the director several issues related to the administrative processing of the associations.
In recent years, AFG has been working intensively to set up several groupings, as we consider them an interesting tool for preventing the abandonment of many forest areas. In total, between territorial and basic joint management forest groupings (AFXC), AFG has helped establish 17 groupings and is working on creating two more.
Among the land mobility instruments available in Galicia, the joint management forest groups provide a fairly suitable framework for the common management of small forest holdings. For their establishment, they should have a minimum area of 10 ha, which may be located in one or more joint management perimeters. These are areas where the AFXC can demonstrate a right of use over more than 70% of the land within the perimeter's boundaries.
There are numerous advantages to a forest group, but the collaboration and unwavering commitment of the owners who wish to establish it are essential, so that the process of creation, and later management, does not become an inhuman effort for the promoters and cause the attempt to fail.
