AFG representatives convey the concerns of forest ownership to the Minister of Rural Affairs
This Monday, October 27, the president, the vice president of Institutional Relations and the director of the AFG held a working meeting with the Minister of the Rural Environment and the director general of Forest Planning and Management.
The meeting addressed, among other things, the modification of the regulations included in this year's draft law on fiscal and administrative measures.
The AFG representatives conveyed the concerns of forest owners and managers regarding some of the planned new developments, namely the modification of the well-known "eucalyptus moratorium" and the changes that are intended to be introduced in the classification of forest land, which would cause many lands currently considered as forest to become agricultural.
The need to have well-evaluated data from the Continuous Forest Inventory of Galicia to end the speculation of forest species areas that is taking place in the sector and in society was also conveyed to the minister. Having the correct data would allow for a solid basis to be able to take the appropriate measures.
We also took the opportunity to express our concern about the delay in having the draft fire prevention law and the local forest law available.
It was also insisted, once again, that secondary networks and biomass management criteria should affect the 50 meters counted from the walls of the buildings.
The AFG was also interested in the fire prevention subsidies pending approval and the public contracts for the management of private communal neighborhood forest owners.
