First issue of the Forest-IN project bulletin
The first issue of the Forest-IN project newsletter has just been published, covering the main activities carried out by the project to date.
The Forest-IN project aims to improve the training of small-scale forest owners, as well as that of technicians and managers.
FOREST-IN is largely based on practice and knowledge transfer. Within the project, international workshops and technical visits, tutorials and interactive educational resources are developed to support critical forest management.
The project has already involved hundreds of participants through workshops and technical visits, held in the Centre of Portugal, Galicia and Provence (France). In these regions, technicians and forest owners visited reference forest areas, sharing and discovering different models of management, valorisation, protection and preservation of forests. The forestry realities of these territories can also be very contrasting, seeking to instil in participants the need to critically analyse their own context to broaden the scale of action through associative practices, as well as the need to protect values that do not have an immediate economic return.
The FOREST-IN project aims to promote good practices and forest education through the organisation of international workshops and technical visits, tutorials and the development of a mobile application designed to assist in the decision-making process for sustainable forest management. All of this is integrated into a concerted strategy involving the forestry community and the general public.
FOREST-IN is funded by the Erasmus+ Programme, the European Commission's main financial instrument for education. The coordinator of this project is the University of Aveiro (Portugal), with the following partners: Fundación Cesefor (Spain), PEFC Spain, FSC International, Unimadeiras (Portugal), the Galician Forestry Association (Spain) and the Provence Model Forest Association (France).
