New issue of O Monte magazine
Another year spent working on improving the management of the Galician forest. And once again we publish our magazine O Monte, in which we cover numerous current topics of interest to forest owners.
On this occasion, the President and the Vice-President of Institutional Relations open the issue by reviewing the hottest topics in current forestry, a year above all marked by two news stories: last summer's fires and the debate over the eucalyptus moratorium, which from 2026 will enter a new phase.
But other matters also made the headlines: the arrival of the taeda pine, which is timidly advancing as a substitute for the radiata pine, which has been severely affected by bark beetles, or the pinaster pine, which is threatened by the nematode, and the development of the first jointly managed forest groups, which are proving to be a good tool for managing abandoned woodlands.
2025 was also the year of the take-off, albeit a modest one, for ecosystem services, which we hope will advance along the right path in the coming 2026 and help to compensate an ever-increasing number of forest owners for their work on behalf of society.
Within the AFG family, the two most notable news items of 2025 were the election of a new Board of Directors in Mos in April and the retirement of Francisco Dans del Valle, who passes his baton to Xosé Covelo Míguez. A comprehensive interview reviews his forty years with the AFG.
Another section provides a summary of the projects in which AFG is involved, some of which conclude this year, leaving their results as a legacy in the Galician mountains.
As is customary, the magazine concludes with an analysis of timber prices and also of other forest products besides timber, which are gradually establishing themselves as forest resources with an ever-increasing economic importance.
We hope that the content will be of interest to the owners and managers of the Galician forests and that the new year will be auspicious for them.
