ForestED.- A video is published about the birch thinnings carried out in Zas
A video is published explaining the birch fellings carried out in the municipality of Zas, A Coruña, in the autumn of 2004 to obtain wood for the experiments being carried out in the ForestED project. The video can be viewed on this link.
Birch is a native species in Galicia with an area that is increasing, both naturally and through plantations. However, despite its abundance, there is no exploitation industry that takes advantage of it.
In the ForestED project, its wood is being experimented and tested to evaluate its potential in the construction and furniture industry. This is the reason for this thinning done in Zas which is explained in the video. The extracted wood was sent to Catalonia for analysis.
Choosing birch would not only allow us to give value to a native species, but also promote its cultivation and sustainable forest management in Galicia.

The ForestED project is an initiative led by the Institute of Advanced Architecture of Catalonia, with the participation of the Consorci Forestal de Catalunya, the Centro de Ciencia y Tecnología Forestal de Cataluña and the Galicia Forestry Association.
ForestED has the support of the Fundación Biodiversidad of the Ministerio para la Transición Ecológica y el Reto Demográfico (MITECO) within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR), financed by the European Union – NextGenerationEU.
