Variety trial of Pinus pinaster and Pinus insignis
During December, the installation of two plantations for research purposes was completed as part of an initiative promoted by the GenMaC supra-autonomous operational group, created to innovate and cooperate in the transfer, use and demonstration of existing knowledge on forest genetic resources, in order to increase the productivity and quality of coniferous timber.
One of the plantations was carried out on the Saiar community woodland in Caldas de Reis (Pontevedra), where 2.8 hectares were planted with 32 varieties of Galician pine (Pine maritime) and the other, on the Riobóo mountain of the Redondas family, located in the municipality of Valadouro (Lugo), 2.7 hectares with 18 varieties of Monterey pine (Radiata pine).
The work was carried out by Selga on commission from the Confederation of Forest Owners' Organisations of Spain (COSE), with the cooperation of the forest owners, as an action of the GenMaC project, in which several national research centres participate. This initiative is co-financed at 80.133% by the European Union's FEADER funds.
