Scientific-technical meeting on pinaster pine forests
On March 19 and 20, the Scientific-technical meeting on pinaster pine forests. A debate forum between scientists and forest management professionals with the aim of contributing to the improvement of these forests in Galicia and Portugal.
A group of thirty-six experts, scientists and forest management professionals, will jointly analyze during two days the most relevant issues affecting forestry and management of Pinaster pine forests.
The maritime pine forests (Pinus pinaster) in Galicia and Portugal are suffering a serious setback due to the impact of forest fires and the incidence of pathologies, problems that compromise the viability of these forests and the availability of resources by the wood industry in both countries. Given this situation, it seems necessary to establish common silvicultural strategies to improve the management of pinaster forests and start an efficient restoration process in Galicia and Portugal.
This meeting is organized by the Galicia Forestry Association, the Galician Forestry Sectoral Association, the Portuguese Forestry Association, the Lourizán Forestry Research Center, the General Directorate of Planning and Forestry Management of the Xunta de Galicia, the Arume Foundation and the Union of Foresters from Southern Europe.
