The Resinerxia Operative Group is up and running.
In recent months the Resinerxia Operative Group – Cooperation Actions for the Development of the Resin Sector – was launched, of which the Galician Forestry Association is a member alongside the companies Xagoaza Pinaster S.L. and Sinergias Sostenibles Resiforest S.L., the University of Vigo, the Galician Food Quality Agency and the Baroña Community of Mountaineers.
The objective of this operational group is to coordinate the actors in Galicia's resin sector to mobilise the resource in Galician forests. To this end, it is intended to fine-tune a mechanised resin extraction methodology using a circular drill adapted to Galician forests, in which the work procedures, the yields of this method, the minimum size of the working stand and its profitability will be defined.
The resin potential of the pine plantations will also be estimated. Pine maritime of Galicia, which will help forest owners to know the marketable value of the timber in their forests, opening up the possibility of combining resin harvesting with timber harvesting.
A specific tool will also be designed for the resin tapper's trade, allowing fieldwork to be carried out more quickly and with less effort, which is expected to improve the quality of the trade and make it an attractive career option.
The project will install trial plots in the four Galician provinces, which will serve as a database for the studies to be carried out.
For this purpose, a total budget of just over €173,000 is available for execution until 2024, financed from the grants for the implementation of projects by the operational groups of the European Innovation Agency.
