The Galician Forestry Association opens a member service office in Pontevedra, in the Santa María de Xeve Cultural Center
On June 6, the Galician Forestry Association opened a member service office in Pontevedra, located in the Santa María de Xeve Cultural Center. The official opening ceremony included a conference by the president of the Galician Forestry Association and professor emeritus at USC, Antonio Rigueiro, who spoke about silvopastoralism and the improvement of pastures through controlled burns (pyric herbivory) as forest fire prevention tools.
The new service office of the Galician Forestry Association complements those already in Ponteareas and Santiago de Compostela. The objective of opening the Pontevedra office is to provide a closer service to members in the north of the province of Pontevedra, both in the Pontevedra region itself and in the Salnés, Caldas, Morrazo and Tabeirós-Terra de Montes regions. Attention will also be paid to the Ribeiro–Arenteiro area, in the province of Ourense.
The office service will be attended by three forestry engineers and a forestry foreman, who were previously in other offices of the Galician Forestry Association. In this way, the new office will facilitate consultation for members and private communal neighboring forests owners, while facilitating the work in the forest of the Galician Forestry Association staff, both in the Pontevedra region and in nearby ones.
The Galician Forestry Association would like to thank the good reception and support that this office has received from the Pontevedra City Council and the private communal neighboring forests owners of Santa María de Xeve.
The Galician Forestry Association also hopes that the new service office in Santa María de Xeve will contribute to expanding the number of members in the north of the province of Pontevedra, as it offers individual forest owners and local private communal neighboring forests owners a close service of advice and management of their properties.
The conference given by Antonio Rigueiro was part of the dissemination activities of COMPÁS: regional development models on pyric herbivory, a tool for environmental conservation and the establishment and protection of the population. COMPAS it is coordinated by the Public University of Navarra in which the Galician Forestry Association (AFG), the Experimental Station of Zaidín de Granada (CSIC), the University of Santiago de Compostela and the Association of Shepherds for the Mediterranean Forest also participate.
COMPAS has the support of the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO) within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR), financed by the European Union – NextGenerationEU.
