The AFG promotes integrated biological control against the gypsy moth.
Within the Innovation Project of the supra-autonomous Operative Group on Sanitation Gonipterus in Eucalyptus-GOSSGE, in which the Forestry Association of Galicia participates through Cost of doing business (Confederation of Forestry Organisations of Spain), the AFG will deliver three courses on the survey and control of the eucalyptus gonipter pest in Galicia, which will take place in the following locations and dates:

The Innovation project of the supra-autonomous operational group on public health on Gonipterus In Eucalipto, GOSSGE is part of the National Rural Development Programme (PDNR) 2014-2020, funded by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA) and the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (FEADER). The project has a duration of two years, ending on 1 September 2020.
Its overall objective is to help ensure, and even increase, the sustainability of eucalyptus plantations in Galicia and the Cantabrian region, which in recent years have been in grave danger from the action of the pest insect. Gonipterus platensis. To this end, innovative methods of biological and integrated monitoring and control are being designed and implemented, which will curb the advance of the harmful agent and result in an improvement in the health of these forest stands.
The GOSSGE project is structured into four lines of work:
- Development of innovative techniques for detecting pest levels
- Innovation in biological control techniques
- Innovation in control techniques with substances of natural origin or compatible with integrated control and
- Results dissemination plan.
Within the GOSSGE project, the Forestry Association of Galicia, as a member of COSE, participates in actions aimed at disseminating the project's results and training Galicia's forest owners in the detection, prevention and control of the gonipter pest.
