AFG attends the third reunion of partners of the NATUR-SMART project in Pozorrubielos de la Mancha, Cuenca
Xosé Covelo, director of the Galician Forestry Association, attended this meeting which took place on June 23 and 24, 2025.
On the 23rd, a meeting took place in which the progress of the project was analyzed and the activities to be developed in the coming months were scheduled, as well as the proposals for planned changes and modifications were studied, the budgets were reviewed and the doubts raised were resolved.
On Tuesday 24th, a visit was made to the Las Morras forest to see the pilot area I of the project. This is a property of about 10 hectares partially included within the Natura 2000 Network, where a plantation of aromatic-medicinal plants is being planned to obtain essential oils. The owner explained what the planned distillation technology will be like. He also demonstrated the electric shepherd system that he uses for rotational grazing as a tool to control vegetation, and also the cultivation of mushrooms for their commercialization in high-quality product trade networks.
The NATUR-SMART project, Conservation of biodiversity through integrated agroforestry management models and the creation of associative networks, received just over one and a half million euros from the Fundación Biodiversidad last year.
Its general objective is to conserve and mobilize agroforestry ecosystem services through the creation of a comprehensive and sustainable management model that increases biodiversity, resistance and resilience of agroforestry masses, activates the rural bioeconomy from a gender perspective and creates an associative network between key agents in the territory by linking supply with demand through a digital network to strengthen the market for goods and services offered by natural ecosystems.
NATUR-SMART has the support of the Fundación Biodiversidad of the Ministerio para la Transición Ecológica y el Reto Demográfico (MITECO) within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR), financed by the European Union – NextGenerationEU.
